West is Best!

I’m not quite sure where my desperation to see the west coast came from, nor when it started. I can recall very clearly though, hiking up through the pine forest towards Unaka Mountain in Tennessee on the Appalachian Trail and having a conversation with Loops about taking a road trip out west.

More specifically, I think we were in the process of making a pact that if we both got fed up hiking, we’d just rent a car and spend the duration of our hike time driving the coastal road next to the Pacific Ocean.

Well, we are now just a little closer to that dream…because we’ve just arrived in Oregon.

Time to Head South

Today’s the day.
It’s time to pony up and finally leave Michigan.

It seems to me that we have been here a while, and looking at the numbers I can tell you that between the mainland and the UP, we’ve called the state of Michigan ‘home’ for exactly 30 days. Well, not including the previous week or so we spent here prior to our U turn to North Carolina. So I guess it’s safe to say – Michigan, we love you.

The time has come…

It seems that our transition from people who own an RV, but only play about with it and don’t live in it, to full timers on the road with no home but their RV, happened all very quickly.
One moment there I was on my hands and knees scrubbing the carpets clean, washing the bus and waxing the roof, and the next thing I know we are fully loaded and shipping out. Continue reading “The time has come…”

The shakedown camping trip

In a slightly unexpected turn of events last week, the day after my moaning blog about not going anywhere, Loops miraculously announced that Belle was ready to go on our final shakedown camping trip – 5 days out and about on the road to test how she would hold up full time. Cue *party dance*

Fuelled by my excitement I blithely offered to go to the supermarket to stock up on food, something I regretted after an hour and a half of wandering the aisles. However, the good news is my first grocery trip took over two hours, so I’m obviously getting better at the shopping…slightly annoying news, I’ve discovered I’m not quite sure where to store the potatoes in the RV. The Countdown

Today I am feeling the frustration. There’s no two ways about it. I am ready to get moving, however, my grand plans for driving off into the sunset with our diesel engine chugging away still aren’t going anywhere.roots not feet

As I sit here typing, Loops is waiting patiently at the garage for Belle’s brakes to be re-fixed. That’s right; they are being fixed for a second time. Why, I hear you cry? Because apparently when we had the work done last week (at rather fricking great expense I might add), the mechanic apparently fitted the wrong parts on the bus. Continue reading “The Countdown”

Feeling Fake

I would just like to start today’s blog with a message for any non-believers.
That being, anyone who thought I was telling a little fib about taking Belle out for a test drive the other day and accidently not being able to show the footage. Well, here just for you is a picture of Belle on her trip, parked next to some random strangers pick up in a Cracker Barrel car park.
Doesn’t she look happy to be out in the sun?
